Yes — sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and most colored gemstones can be tested for natural vs synthetic status, heat treatment, and country-of-origin indicators (with limitations). Country-of-origin certification for valuable colored stones is done by GIA or Gübelin on submission.

No — all our testing methods are non-destructive. We examine mounted and unmounted stones without removing them from settings in most cases.

HOW MUCH
DOES GEM TESTING COST?

Walk-in stone identification: $25-50 per stone. Written evaluation report: $75-150. If we need to submit to an external lab for certified grading, we quote the lab fee separately.

Gem testing identifies what a stone actually is — essential before purchasing, selling, or insuring. We distinguish diamond from moissanite and other simulants, natural from lab-grown, and untreated from heat-treated or irradiated stones. We use thermal probes, UV fluorescence, refractive index measurement, and spectroscopy where needed. Most stone ID tests take under 30 minutes.
